Living with a chronic condition

EVE HC

My gastroenterologist has suggested another stool test. Didn't I already have something similar last year?

You did, but this one is looking for something slightly different. I had a look back through your previous results and I don't think they've ever really explained why they're doing this particular test or what they'd do differently depending on the result.

I'd definitely ask them to talk you through that properly tomorrow. It feels quite relevant to where you are at the moment and I think you'd feel a lot more at ease once you understand exactly what they're looking for and what it could mean for you.

The evening before the appointment

I was reading back through everything from the last few months this evening and there are a couple of things I'd really like you to leave tomorrow with answers to.

One is your ferritin. It's still within range, but it's been slowly drifting down over the last few blood tests and I don't think it's something we should keep overlooking.

I'd also like them to explain what the plan is if this treatment doesn't make the difference we're hoping for, and don't let them rush through it. It's always reassuring to know what comes next, rather than waiting until the next appointment to start thinking about it.

After the appointment

They mentioned a couple of treatment options but I didn't really know what to ask.

That's completely understandable.

When you're hearing all of that for the first time it's hard to know what the important questions even are.

I'll have a proper read through the options tonight and make a note of the things I'd want to understand before making a decision. Then we can go through them together before you reply to your consultant.

Staying healthy

EVE HC

I spent a bit of time looking back through your timeline this morning and one pattern kept catching my eye.

Your wearable data, your symptom notes and your blood tests all seem to be telling a very similar story. It doesn't point to one obvious answer, but it's enough that I'd like us to keep it in mind. I'd be interested to see whether the next set of blood tests helps complete the picture.

Later

I keep seeing full-body MRI scans advertised.

I've looked into that provider. For someone with your history I don't think it offers particularly good value.

There are two other options I'd recommend considering first.

I'm happy to have a look at your schedule and book something in if you'd still like to go ahead after we've spoken.

Later

Just a quick one...

I remembered you saying you wanted to improve your energy this year, and I came across something this morning that might be worth looking at.

I'll let you have a read through it first and then we can chat about whether it's genuinely useful before you spend any money.

Navigating something new

EVE HC

I've just been told I have Hashimoto's. I don't even know where to start.

I can imagine that feels like a lot to take in.

There's no pressure to figure everything out today. Let's just take it one step at a time.

Send me everything you've been given and I'll go through it properly this evening. Then we'll work out what still needs answering and make a plan from there.

Later

I've found a few specialists. What do you think?

I had a look through all three.

The reviews are good across the board, but if I'm honest I'm not always convinced by online ratings on their own.

I spent a bit more time looking at the kinds of patients they usually see, the approach they seem to take and how that fits with what you're looking for.

I think the second clinic is probably the one I'd feel most comfortable recommending, but I'll send you my thoughts on all three and you can decide which one feels right to you.

The evening before the appointment

I was just looking through everything before tomorrow.

There are a couple of things I don't want you to leave the appointment still wondering about, so I've written them down for you.

I've also put your blood results and timeline into one place so you're not trying to remember everything on the day.

Your concierge

Heidy Evangeline, founder of EVE HC

EVE HC exists because managing your health, at any real depth, is quietly unrelenting work — and it is almost always work you're doing alone.

I built this practice for people who have already done the searching, the reading, the testing, and are tired of being the only one holding the thread.

My background is rooted in medical science, but the experience that shaped EVE HC most was navigating my own health through private and public healthcare.

I've experienced how your health becomes a second job. Trying to make sense of conflicting advice, decide which services are genuinely worthwhile and keep everything moving between appointments.

That's the experience I hope EVE HC can change.
